Germán List Arzubide

Biography
1898 - 1998
Germán List Arzubide was born in Puebla, Mexico on May 31, 1898. He was not only a poet and an important memeber of the Strident Movement, but he was also a soldier in the Mexican Revolution, who fought alongside Emilio Zapata. He wrote many poems praising Zapata, and in 1927 published Zapata: Exaltation, a biography about his hero. His first major work of Strident poetry, Equina was published in 1923, and three years later he authored El movimiento estridentista (1926), a manuscript that contained an exaggerated history of the Strident Movement and a fictitious story regarding some of its participants. While Maples Acre was the founder and leader of the Strident Movement, List Arzubide established himself as second in command. Stridentism, as most of the many avent-garde movements of the 20's and 30's, glorified modern scientific and industrial development. List Arzubide died at the age of 100 on October 19, 1998.
